🎙️The next Handle With Care podcast episode I want to feature is with Dr. Lisa Snow. 🌟
This one is close to my heart, as Lisa was my supervisor as Assistant Chief at the Peoria Police Department and remains my mentor. Then, as now, she understands how ACEs and trauma can affect a person’s behavior- there is usually more to the story. She was always a huge champion of community policing and restorative practices, and now in her classroom, trauma-responsive practices are a core part of her teaching style. She often will let a student keep her head down if needed, and gives students the option of saying “today isn’t a great day.”
She also innately believes in the potential of every student and fosters that sense of hope in their future. This is SO IMPORTANT!

Showing students that you have hope for them, that you believe in them, acknowledging them when you see them, or making it a point to connect, just might save a life.
In return, her students trust her with their lived experience, they look to her when they are in trouble or need a cheerleader- they know she is always there.
